OUTPUT SITUATION
As part of a large-scale consulting project in an industrial environment, BCG specifically brought external senior expertise in procurement, supply chain and manufacturing excellence into the project team.
The industrial client, a globally operating company, was under cost pressure and at the same time wanted to increase the resilience and efficiency of its supply and production networks with a focus on the North American organization. Existing purchasing and governance structures showed potential for optimization, particularly with regard to operating model, price level, process stability and transparency.

OBJECTIVE
The aim of the collaboration was to work with the BCG team to achieve sustainable savings and measurable increases in efficiency along the entire value chain - from procurement and supply chain to manufacturing excellence. A central focus was on analyzing and further developing the operating model in order to optimally align structures, processes and technological systems for future growth and resilience.
IMPLEMENTATION
We carried out the following activities for BCG as part of the project:

Identification and realization of concrete savings and optimization potential in the operating model

Development of market and price benchmarks and assessment of competitiveness

Supplier analyses and derivation of best-practice sourcing strategies

Analysis and improvement of the procurement organization, governance and digital system landscape

Expert advice on increasing productivity, OPEX/CAPEX efficiency and production performance

Support BCG in workshops, management presentations and operational implementation measures
RESULT & NEXT STEPS
The joint work led to measurable improvements: significant cost reductions in purchasing, increased transparency across markets and supply chains as well as optimized internal processes. At the same time, governance structures were modernized and digitalization approaches were integrated into the procurement process. The project sustainably strengthened the client's operational excellence and demonstrated how specialized expertise and strategic consulting can create significant added value in close partnership.
